PINE BLUFF, AR - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team went into halftime tied 24-24 with Ole Miss, but could not pull away in the second half and fell 62-47 to the Rebels at home Thursday.
The Lady Lions had two players score in double figures, led by Coriah Beck, who had 14 points. Zaay Green added 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Maya Peat added eight points and three blocks.
The UAPB defense held Ole Miss shooters to just 36.7 percent from the field, including 14.3 percent from three-point range.
How It Happened
After falling behind 5-4, UAPB went on a 5-0 run with 4:07 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Jelissa Reese, to take a 9-5 lead. The Lady Lions then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 13-12 advantage. UAPB relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 13 points.
The Lady Lions surrendered their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime with the score tied 24-24. UAPB forced four Ole Miss turnovers in the period and turned them into four points.
Ole Miss proceeded to take over in the third quarter and the Lady Lions entered the fourth trailing 46-33. UAPB knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its nine total points.
UAPB could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 62-47. UAPB took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 14 points in the paint.
