PINE BLUFF, AR --Lonnell Martin and Ismael Plet each recorded double-doubles to help lead the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team over Ecclesia College 125-75 at home Monday at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.Â
The Golden Lions had five players score in double figures, led by Joe French, who had 34 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Rashad Williams added 23 points and six assists and Martin helped out with a double-double with 19 points and 10 assists.
Led by Plet's six offensive rebounds, UAPB did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in 12 second chance points.
UAPB forced 13 turnovers. The Golden Lions turned those takeaways into 23 points on the other end of the floor. Trejon Ware led the way individually with four steals.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 14-12 advantage, UAPB went on a 10-0 run with 14:13 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Martin, to increase its lead to 24-12. The Golden Lions then added six points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 63-45 advantage. UAPB relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down 12 shots to account for 36 of its 63 points.
Following intermission, UAPB kept widening that lead, expanding it to 94-64 before going on a 16-0 run, finished off by Martin's three, to grow the lead to 110-64 with 4:10 to go in the contest. The Golden Lions kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 125-75 win. UAPB shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting nine shots from deep to score 27 of its 62 points.
