EUGENE, OR - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff's women's basketball team got a 22-point performance from the bench, but fell 86-60 to the Oregon Ducks on the road Wednesday.
Zaay Green led the Golden Lions with 24 points and four steals. Maori Davenport also added three points, 10 rebounds and three blocks and Tia Morgan chipped in as well with three points, five assists and two steals off of the bench.
Led by Davenport's five offensive rebounds, UAPB did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in five second chance points.
UAPB forced 16 Oregon turnovers while committing 14 themselves in Wednesday's game. The Golden Lions turned those takeaways into 14 points on the other end of the floor. Green's four steals led the way for UAPB.
How It Happened
UAPB got off to a slow start, falling behind 17-4 at the end of the first quarter.
The Golden Lions continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 43-19 halftime deficit.
Oregon continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 55-23 advantage before UAPB went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Green, to trim its deficit to 55-29 with 2:22 to go in the third. Oregon countered and stretched its lead to 58-29 heading into the fourth. UAPB played well near the basket, scoring six of its 10 points in the paint.
UAPB narrowed its deficit to 60-35 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Green's layup, to shrink the deficit to 60-42 with 6:53 to go in the contest. Oregon responded and outscored the Golden Lions the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 86-60. UAPB fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 31 points.
