Golden Lions Golf Program Ranks the No.1 HBCU Golf Program

UAPB Men’s Golf Win Back-To-Back SWAC Fall Invitational Championship

Birmingham, AL. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff golf team won its second straight trophy in less than five days but also clinched back-to-back fall titles after winning the 2023 SWAC Fall Invitational at the Oxmoor Valley RTJ Golf Course.

The Golden Lions finished last season ranked number 1 HBCU program in the country, placed all five golfers in the top 8, and put together rounds of 281 and 299 for a total of 580 to win the tournament in a 36-hole event.

Jose Berenguel was the Golden Lions' top finisher as he placed first overall with a two-day total of 140, putting together two consecutive rounds in the '70s, followed by Timur Alalin, who shot (70,71) with a total of 141 to secure second place. Berenguel also clinched the individual tournament carding.

Isamael Garcia placed fourth with and shot rounds of (70, 78) with a score of 148. Jules De Reu placed fifth with rounds of (71, 81) with a score of 152.

Angel Perez rounded out top-8, finishing seventh with two rounds of (79 80) with a score of 159.
