BATON ROUGE, --The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's soccer team took down Southern U. 1-0, to open up conference play on the road at A.W. Mumford Stadium/Pete Richardson Field Friday night.

UAPB (6-6-0; 1-0 SWAC) got its first SWAC Conference win of the season behind a big goal from freshman Tiana Johnson, while Southern U. dropped to (3-6-1, 0-1 SWAC). 

It was a big night for sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Schumacher as she made seven saves to earn the shutout victory in the net.  It marks the first win between the post in her collegiate career, playing the full 90 minutes.  

The Lady Lions got off to a quick start as Johnson took the feed from classmate Amiya Callicut and buried what would be the match-winning goal during the 23rd minute in the first half to put UAPB up 1-0 going into intermission.  

In the second half, the Lady Lion's defense held the Lady Jaguars to very few chances, as they made two shot attempts with less than four minutes to tie the game.  UAPB's defense logged its fifth shutout of the season with the win. 

The Lady Lions will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to take on Jackson St. at 1:00 p.m. at JSU Soccer Field.
