The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's head basketball coach
Dawn Thornton announced the addition of the University of Virginia and former four-star standout Corina Carter. Coach Thornton and her staff basketball team's 2022-23 roster is slowly rounding into form, as Carter announced her enrollment at UAPB.
Carter, expected to provide some stability at the point position, experience and three-point shooting for the Lady Lions in a backcourt that has been entirely reshaped by the transfer portal with the additions of Razi Potter, Coriah Beck and Jelissa Reese.
The former four-star recruit, ranked 16th point guard and 64th overall player in the 2019 class by ESPNW, transfers in from the University of Virginia. Carter, originally from San Antonio, Texas out of Judson High School, received offers from Kentucky, Boston College, Virginia and Wichita State, and ultimately committed to New Mexico. Carter played two seasons with the Lobos, but playing in 50 total games in 15.8 minutes of action per game.
"This is a great opportunity for our basketball program," Thornton said. "We felt like solidifying a natural point guard that can score on all three levels is what we really needed to hit a home run from a talent standpoint with this recruiting class. Without a doubt, by securing Corina, we've done that. She's a tremendous athlete that has the vision to make the right pass and can be dependable shooting the ball from deep in rhythm. We feel she has a high ceiling and by playing in our system she will be able to maximize her potential."
"Basketball has always been my passion and I've been more than blessed to be able to continue on this journey," Carter said. "This opportunity gives me a new sense of freshness. New atmosphere, new team, new challenges, new commitments. The culture at UAPB already seems welcoming, wholesome and whole-heartedly somewhere I want to be."
