#UAPBSoftball Jackson's Homers Lift Lady Lions Over Alcorn State On Senior Day

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas -- Junior Samaria Jackson put together a stellar performance at the plate Saturday, hitting two homers to help propel the Lady Lions past the Alcorn State Lady Braves 6-4.

Junior Sydney Green started in the circle and picked up the win for UAPB. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, allowing no walks and striking out four.

Jackson went 2-for-3 at the plate, supplementing her two home runs with three RBIs. Freshman Kaitlyn Neely added to Jackson's awesome power-hitting performance by going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Marissa Bracey also chipped in for the Lady Lions, going 2-for-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Bracey came across to score the lone run of the inning for UAPB and get them on the board.

The Lady Lions then held the Lady Braves scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. UAPB pushed across a run on Neely's one-out RBI double, which brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Lady Lions.

UAPB kept Alcorn State without a run before building their lead to 4-0 the following inning. The Lady Lions added two to their tally on Jackson's two-run homer to left.

UAPB held the Lady Braves scoreless before their offense got back in action the next inning. Freshman Tyrah Elerby crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Lady Lions, bringing the UAPB advantage to 5-0.

Alcorn State got within 5-3 until the Lady Lions scored again in the fifth inning on Jackson's leadoff home run to stretch its lead to 6-3. Alcorn State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Lady Lions still held on for the 6-4 win.

GAME NOTES

» The Lady Lions out-hit the Lady Braves at an 11-6 clip.
» UAPB went 3-for-7 (.429) with runners in scoring position.
» UAPB pitchers faced 26 Alcorn State hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out four.
» Jackson led the Lady Lions at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI.
