#UAPBSoftball Defeats Central Baptist College In Walk-Off Fashion 3-2

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas - The UAPB Lady Lions rallied to score one in the seventh inning and walked it off with junior Zharia Richardson at the plate to pick up the 3-2 victory over the Central Baptist Mustangs Tuesday.

Junior Sydney Green got the win for UAPB. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out eight.

Offensively, the Lady Lions were paced by senior Alyssa Wesley, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double. Richardson furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Sophomore Layla Stouder also chipped in for UAPB, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. UAPB got an RBI single from Richardson, scoring Wesley from third base.

The Mustangs then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the Lady Lions got back on the board in the sixth. Junior Desiree Bumpers came across to score the lone run of the inning for UAPB, which brought the score level at 2-2.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh, when UAPB walked it off after a sacrifice fly by Richardson to bring freshman Enecia Sykes across to score.

GAME NOTES

» Green struck out eight Mustangs hitters.
» The Lady Lions out-hit the Mustangs at a 10-5 clip.
» Green limited Central Baptist to just 1-for-5 (.200) with runners in scoring position.
» Wesley led the Lady Lions at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double.
