#UAPBSoftball Fall Short In Double Header To Southern

GAME 1 | Southern 2, UAPB 1

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas -- Sydney Green had everything working on Sunday, striking out 14 Southern hitters over seven innings of work, but it was not enough as the Lady Lions fell to the Lady Jaguars 2-1.

In addition to her 14 strikeouts, Green tossed seven innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on four hits and walking none for UAPB.

Martinez Remington led the way offensively for the Lady Lions, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Lions got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. UAPB got on the board thanks to Remington's RBI double. The Lady Lions were unable to hold the lead, as Southern scored two times over the remaining five innings to grab the 2-1 win.

» Green fanned 14 Lady Jaguars hitters.
» The Lady Lions out-hit the Lady Jaguars at an 8-4 clip.

GAME 2 | Southern 5, UAPB 2

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas -- Amari Broughton went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, but the Lady Lions still came up short on Sunday, and suffered defeat at the hands of the Southern Lady Jaguars by a final of 5-2.

Paola Rodriguez got the ball to start for UAPB and took the loss. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on seven hits, allowing one walk and striking out one.

Broughton led the way offensively for the Lady Lions, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a double and two RBIs. Layla Stouder furnished a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a double. Demetria Golliday also helped out, going 2-for-4 for UAPB.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 5-0, the Lady Lions first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. UAPB scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Broughton. The Lady Lions were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

GAME NOTES

» UAPB's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed two runs across.
» UAPB pitchers faced 29 Southern hitters in the game, allowing 11 ground balls and six fly balls while striking out one.
