CORAL GABLES, FL --UAPB women's basketball team got a 27-point showing from the bench, but fell 64-59 to the N.C. A&T Aggies at Watsco Center Sunday.

The Lady Lions had two players score in double figures, led by Maori Davenport, who put together a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jelissa Reese tacked on 13 points and three steals and Raziya Potter added seven points, five assists and two steals.

UAPB collected 43 rebounds in Sunday's game compared to N.C. A&T's 37, led by Davenport's 11 boards. The Lady Lions also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 15 rebounds into 16 second chance points.

UAPB forced 16 N.C. A&T turnovers. The Lady Lions turned those takeaways into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Reese's three steals led the way for UAPB.

How It Happened

UAPB struggled out of the gate, falling behind 15-8 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Lions fought back in the second period, narrowing the deficit to 28-24 by the time halftime rolled around.

UAPB started to cut into the deficit after halftime, bringing it to 44-41 by the end of the third quarter. UAPB played well near the basket, scoring 14 of its 17 points in the paint.

UAPB managed to gain control and had a 49-46 lead before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Davenport's jumper, to grow the lead to 58-46 with 4:54 to go in the contest. N.C. A&T then asserted control, outscoring the Lady Lions 18-1 the rest of the way to hand UAPB the 64-59 loss. UAPB took advantage of five N.C. A&T turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of those takeaways.
