#UAPBFootball Set For Showdown Against Alabama St. In Turkey Day Classic On ESPN+

PINE BLUFF, AR.- THE BASICS: The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions and Alabama St. Hornets are set to hit the gridiron in the 98th Annual Turkey Day Classic on Thursday, November 24, at 2 P.M., central time at ASU Stadium. The game will air on ESPN + with Butch Alsandor (play-by-play) and Jorge Vargas (analyst) on the call.

THE MATCHUP: The Golden Lions and Hornets will meet for the 20th time since joining the SWAC, but this will be UAPB's first time playing in one of the oldest classics in the nation (Turkey Day Classic). The Hornets won the last meeting, 35-15, in 2021. 

LAST TIME OUT: The Golden Lions came up short against Prairie View A&M, 55-24, at home (Simmons Bank Field). Kayvon Britten, who ranks third in the
SWAC Conference in rushing, led all UAPB rushers with 87 yards and one touchdown in the contest, picking up 4.8 yards per carry. Skyler Perry went 15-27 for 171 yards and one touchdown against the Panthers.  

Raequan Prince reeled in one catch for 52 yards, followed by Kenji Lewis with two catches for 27 yards and one touchdown. 

On the defensive side, safety Grant Ewell Jr. showed out for the Golden Lion's defense with 12. Alabama native linebacker Rico Dozier finished with 11 tackles and two TFLs for loss. 

Alabama St. is coming off a 21-14 loss to Florida A&M.  On the offensive side of the ball, the Hornets are led by Dematrius Davis, going 76-128 for 932 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions for the season. On the defensive side, Adam Colton leads the Hornets with 111 tackles for the season. 


GOLDEN LIONS EMERGENCE: Dozier ranks ninth in the SWAC Conference with 70 tackles (33 solos, 37 assists), 9.5 TFLs, and two sacks.  Nathan Seward tied for fifth in the SWAC Conference with three interceptions and tied for second in the conference with 11 breakups.


PLAYERS TO WATCH: Mark Evans II, who was recently invited to participate in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, which takes place on Jan. 28, 2023, at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California. 

Evans was also named to the Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List, Walton Payton Award Watch List, Stats Perform FCS All-America Third Team, BoxToRow Preseason HBCU All-America First Team, and East-West Shrine Bowl 1,000 list. He's also a four-time First Team (SWAC) All-Conference, three-time HBCU Boxtorow All-America, Boxtorow All-America Honoree, HBCU Classic All-American, and Rated top-10 HBCU player by Pro Football Network.

Josh Sanchez who's labeled one of the top FCS punters in the nation and named the 2022 SWAC Preseason First-Team All-Conference.  Sanchez ranks second in the conference, averaging punt net at 42.3, with his season longest (68 yards).
