HUNTSVILLE, AL -- Laila Fortson totaled eight kills with an .8 hitting percentage to help carry the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team to a 3-0 win (25-7, 25-13, 25-11) over the Mississippi Valley State Sunday in the first SWAC Cluster of the season.
Fortson finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Lady Lions attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .8. got 12 digs from Starvoula Papazoglou to lead them defensively.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Lions won the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to secure the first set 25-7. UAPB opened up its biggest lead, 18 points, to close out the set, collecting 16 kills with a .682 attack percentage while only registering one attack error in the process. UAPB also supplemented their offense with six aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, UAPB put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-13 victory in set number two. The Lady Lions scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. UAPB opened up as much as a 13 point lead at 21-8 before finishing off the set. The UAPB offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | UAPB closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after winning set three. The Lady Lions led from the first point on in the set to earn a 25-11 victory. UAPB ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, 14 points, to close out the set.
