PINE BLUFF, AR --The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team defeated the Southern Lady Jaguars 3-1 (25-10, 20-25, 25-20, 25-8) Tuesday at home.
Fernanda Spengler finished with 16 kills on the day to lead the Lady Lions offense. Defensively, UAPB had two players reach double figures in digs as Starvoula Papazoglou had 17 and Zykia Jones had 13.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Lions won the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to win the first set 25-10. UAPB opened up its biggest lead, 15 points, to finish off the set. UAPB also supplemented their offense with five aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | UAPB lost set two 25-20 to even the match 1-1. Southern grabbed the advantage for good at 21-20 in a set that was tied up six times before the Lady Jaguars took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | UAPB put the second-set loss behind and grabbed a 2-1 match lead with a win in set three. The Lady Lions took the set 25-20 thanks to a strong performance on the attacking side. UAPB put together a .308 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set win. The Lady Lions opened up a 23-16 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there.
SET 4 | UAPB kept the momentum going, earning the match win with a 25-8 fourth-set victory. The Lady Lions scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. UAPB finished up the stanza on a strong note, claiming its biggest lead, 17 points, to finish off the set. UAPB also supplemented their offense with six aces in the set.
