#UAPBVolleyball Drops Heartbreaker To Texas Southern 3-2

PINE BLUFF, AR -- The UAPB volleyball team lost 3-2 (19-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-23, 15-17) to the Texas Southern Lady Tigers Sunday at home at HO Clemmons Arena.

The Lady Lions were led by a double-double from Zykia Jones, who registered 13 kills and 20 digs on the day. Fernanda Spengler also added 12 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Breana August chipped in for with 17 digs to go with six blocks from Kori Diego.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Lions found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-19. UAPB trailed by as many as six points as Texas Southern grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 in a set that was tied up three times before the Lady Tigers took control.

SET 2 | UAPB responded to pick up a 25-15 victory in set two, evening the match at one set apiece. The Lady Lions scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. UAPB opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 10 points, to close out the set.

SET 3 | Texas Southern went ahead 2-1 in the match after taking down the Lady Lions in set three. The Lady Lions couldn't endure a furious Texas Southern rally, falling 25-21 after leading by eight points at 18-10 earlier in the set.

SET 4 | UAPB then responded to secure set four 25-23 to force a fifth set. The Lady Lions led from the opening point on in the set to earn the victory. UAPB opened up as much as a five point lead at 19-14 before finishing off the stanza. UAPB also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set.

SET 5 | UAPB was on the wrong side of a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but losing the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 17-15, to fall in the match. The Lady Lions came up short in a back-and-forth set five, losing in a stanza that featured two lead changes and was tied five times. Neither team led by more than three points in the set.
