#UAPBFootball Drops Heartbreaker To Alabama A&M

PINE BLUFF, Arkansas -- UAPB put together a huge 294-yard output on the ground, including 277 yards from sophomore Kayvon Britten, and four rushing touchdowns, but fell 34-31 to Alabama A&M Sunday afternoon at home at Simmons Bank Field.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-4 on the year and 2-2-1 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the UAPB fell to 2-5 overall and 0-4 in conference matchups.

Britten paced the UAPB rushing attack by accumulating 277 yards and four touchdowns over the course of the game, averaging 8.7 yards per carry. Kiersta Rogers also added 30 yards on the ground.


Anas Luqman paced the Golden Lions defensive effort, collecting 1.0 TFL and one sack. Mekhi Ferrell added and Gran Ewell Jr. had 12 tackles and 0.5 TFL in the loss.

UAPB recorded a big showing on the ground, totaling 294 rushing yards while averaging 5.9 yards per carry and out-rushing Alabama A&M by 68 yards. UAPB converted on 56.2 percent of third-down attempts on the day.  Defensively, UAPB held up fairly well against the Alabama A&M passing attack, holding the Bulldogs to 162 yards through the air.

How It Happened

After Alabama A&M jumped out to a 10-0 lead, UAPB got on the board with 4:11 left in the first quarter to narrow the margin to 10-7.The UAPB then took the lead on a two-yard rushing touchdown from making the score 14-10.

Alabama A&M fought back to take a 24-14 lead before UAPB put a field goal on the board to close the gap with :12 left in the second quarter and make it a 24-17 game.The Golden Lions proceeded to score again and tie it at 24-24.

Alabama A&M would go up 31-24, before Britten would score his fourth touchdown of the game to tie the game up 31-31.  The Bulldogs would kick the game winning field goal down the stretch for the road win.

Game Notes

» UAPB had their highest scoring quarter in the first period, when they put up 14 points.
» UAPB converted 9 of 16 third downs while Alabama A&M was successful on 3 of 8.
» UAPB had three players with more than eight tackles in the ballgame led by Ewell Jr., who had 12.
» Josh Sanchez punted two times for the UAPB with an average of 48.0 yards per punt.


The Golden Lions will be back in action on October 29 as they travel to Tallahassee, Florida to take on Florida A&M.
