PINE BLUFF, AR - Maya Peat and Tyler Pyburn combined to score 24 total points - 60 percent of UAPB's points - but the Lady Lions fell to the Alabama State Lady Hornets 54-40 at home Wednesday.
The Lady Lions (4-8, 0-2) had two players score in double figures, led by Peat, who had 13 points and nine rebounds. Pyburn tacked on 11 points and two steals and Sade Hudson added nine points and two steals.
The UAPB defense was a problem in Wednesday's game, forcing 15 Alabama State turnovers.
How It Happened
UAPB got off to a slow start, falling behind 23-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Lions continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 36-20 halftime deficit.
UAPB started to cut into the deficit after halftime, bringing it to 47-34 by the end of the third quarter. UAPB turned three offensive rebounds into four second chance points on the way to scoring 14 total points in the quarter.
UAPB could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 54-40.
