The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff competed in their first road game of the season against the Memphis Tigers of Memphis University on August 26th, falling 0-8. The Lady Lions took on tough competition as the Memphis Tigers led the game in shots at the goal.

"Some of what we took away from this game is the heart that our team has especially competing against the best competition we'll see this season," said Head Coach Erik Solberg.

During the first half, Memphis jumped out in the first minute with a goal from Haylee Spray leading 0-1. The Lady Lions were unable to gain any shot attempts at the goal down the stretch, while the Tigers dominated at the goal finishing the half with a total of 6 goals (0-6).

To kick off the second half of the competition, both teams got out to a slow start, with intense defense from both squads. The Memphis Tigers scored their seventh goal at the 65 minute mark to hold their lead against UAPB. The Lady Lions aggressively attacked the goal but were unable to gain any shots at the goal. The Tigers scored their last goal in the last five minutes of the game to seal the win 0-8. 

For the Lady Lions, Isabella Almordova led the team in saves as goalkeeper with a total of two. For the Tigers, Lara Kazandjian led the team with two goals, eight shots, and five shots at the goal. 

"Going into our next week of competition we are learning from our mistakes in the game against Memphis and turning those to teachable moments, to gain a win," said Coach Solberg. 

The Lady Lions will be back on the road to Conway, AR to compete against the Mustangs of Central Baptist College on August 31st at 2 pm. The game will take place at the Centennial Soccer Complex with live stats available at uapblionsroar.com/soccer.
