The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team dropped game three 8-4 in the series finale Monday evening at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first and five in the top of the fifth inning before the Lady Lions roared back in the bottom of the fifth inning when freshman
Samaria Jackson singled to center field scoring
Alyssa Wesley who reached earlier on a fielder choice to cut the lead to six, (7-1). Senior
Shanice Akins would reach base on an error by the shortstop but eventually score on a wild pitch by the pitcher to cut the deficit to five (7-2).
The Lady Tigers added another run at the top of the seventh inning to take an 8-2 lead before Jackson blasted a 2-run home run to left field to cut the lead to four (8-4), but it was not enough in the comeback.
Jackson led UAPB at the plate, going 2-for-4 and three RBIs, followed by senior
Anne Gerwitz going 1-for-3. Sophomore
Desiree Bumpers and Wesley added a hit apiece for the Lady Lions.
The Lady Lions will be back in action for a three-game series on the road at Texas Southern at the McGregor Park in Houston, TX. Game one of the series will take place on Friday, April 30th, at 3 p.m., and games two and three will be a doubleheader on Saturday, May 1st, beginning at 12 p.m.
