Academy Sports + Outdoors and UAPB Athletics to Adopt Youth Baseball Team

Mentorship program kicks off with special donation of new baseball gear to league


WHO:              Academy Sports + Outdoors; University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Athletic Director Chris Robinson and coach Sebastian Stargell; Director of the Student- Athlete Advisory Committee Juwan Parker; and Pine Bluff Northern Cal Ripken/Junior Babe Ruth League President Gene Moss
 
WHAT:           Academy Sports + Outdoors is partnering with University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) Athletics to adopt youth from the Pine Bluff Northern Cal Ripken/Junior Babe Ruth League for the Spring 2021 semester. To begin the mentorship program, Academy Sports + Outdoors and UAPB are teaming up to make a special donation of baseball gear, including bats, tees, baseballs, gloves, helmets and more to the league. UAPB Athletic Director Chris Robinson,  baseball coach Sebastian Stargell and Director of Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Juwan Parker will be on site to surprise the youth with new gear.
 
Throughout the Spring semester, UAPB student-athletes and coaches will mentor the youth players through meaningful engagements and joint practices.
 
The partnership between Academy Sports + Outdoors and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) focuses on establishing meaningful community initiatives within the SWAC footprint. Specifically, these initiatives will look to activate and amplify grassroots efforts, such as youth outreach and mentoring programs, that are inclusive of students-athletes and administrators from across the conference.
