#UAPBVolleyball To Host Two Key Conference Matches At Home

Pine Bluff, Ark. The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's volleyball team continues play at home in the H.O. Clemmons Arena this week on Monday and Wednesday against conference foes Grambling St. Lady Tigers and Southern U. Lady Jaguars.

The Lady Lions improved to (4-3, 3-2 SWAC) last week with a 3-0 shutout over Alcorn St.

UAPB will face off against Grambling St. (5-4, 3-2 SWAC) Monday, March 8 at 6 p.m. CT. This will be the second meeting between the two conference opponents, with the Lady Tigers winning the first match in four-sets at their home place.

UAPB will be led by sophomore Zyonne Smith, who leads the conference in kills per set (4.08 avg/s), and points averaging (4.42 avg/s). Sophomore Nikole Akamine, who previously was named Conference Player of the Week, ranks second in the conference in Services Aces per set (0.50 avg/s).  Junior Destiny Thomas, who ranks second in the conference in hitting percentage per set ( .346 TA/set), and junior Haley Gomez, who ranks at the top in the conference in blocks (34), averaging 1.42 avg/s).

On "Dig Pink Night," the Lady Lions will host Southern U. (4-4, 4-4 SWAC) Wednesday, March 10 at 6 p.m. CT.  This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, with the Lady Lions sweeping the Lady Jags 3-0.
