#UAPBVolleyball Hits The Road For Conference Play Against Grambling St.

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team hits the road Monday against Grambling St. in the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center at 6 p.m.

The Lady Lions will be looking to add to their two-game winning streak against the Lady Tigers. Out of the last 10 matches, UAPB leads the series 8-2, with the Lions sweeping Grambling St. in the previous matchup in 2019, 3-0 (25-, 25-18, 25-9).

"As a team, we can't afford to go on the road and take Grambling St. lightly," said UAPB head coach Chelsey Lucas. We prepped and made sure to stick to the game plan and staying focus with good energy from the start of the game to the end."

UAPB is coming off a non-conference win at home against Philander Smith College, 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-10), dominating all three matches.

UAPB is led by sophomore, Zyonn Smith who leads the Southwestern Athletic Conference in kills per set with 4.00 and points per set at 4.38. On the defensive side, junior Haley Gomez leads the conference in average blocks per set with 2.00, and sophomore Nyah Ellis leads the conference in digs per set with 6.50.

"Smith is a huge part of our success along with the rest of the team," said Lucas. "She has definitely grown since her freshman year and becoming an all-around player for us and making the team better."
