PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball lost at Prairie View A&M 70-58 Monday at the William J. Nicks Building.
The Lady Lions (2-15, 1-10 SWAC) had three players score in double figures, led by Kaila Walker, who had 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Khadijah Brown added 14 points and seven rebounds and
Tyler Pyburn chipped in as well with 13 points, including three three-pointers, and six rebounds off the bench.
UAPB did a great job disrupting Prairie View A&M shots in the contest, coming away with eight blocks.
Nissa Sam-Grant led the way individually for the Lady Lions with four rejections.
The Lady Lions faced a 47-31 halftime deficit. Prairie View A&M continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 51-34 advantage before UAPB went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Brown, to trim its deficit to 51-39 with 7:08 to go in the third. Prairie View A&M countered and stretched its lead to 58-44 heading into the fourth.
UAPB came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on an 8-0 run, finished off by a
Jahnay Anderson three pointer to cut the deficit to 58-52 with just over six minutes remaining but could get no closer.
