The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's and women's indoor track & field teams will be competing in the Indoor Track and Field Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship in Birmingham, Alabama, on Feb. 24-25 at the Crossplex.
"We are ready to compete at a high level and place in the top three at the SWAC Championship," said UAPB Head Coach Christopher McCoy.Â
In last year's performance, on the men's side, the Golden Lions finished fifth overall, with junior Franklyn Stanislaus setting a new record in the Heptathlon. Stanislaus scored a total of 4,617 points in the indoor championship.
Sophomore Clement Campbell Jr. made his entrance in the long jump competition last year, with Campbell clinching the top spot in the long jump competition with a leap of 7.50m.
The Lady Lions finished fourth overall and in the top-five for the second consecutive year on the women's side. Junior Safiya John finished first in the Pentathlon with a total of 3,703 points. John was also named 2020 Most Outstanding Field Performer.Â
UAPB has won this award five out of the last seven years under the leadership of McCoy.
The two-day competition will begin on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with the running event, the 3,000 preliminaries, and field events starting shortly after at 7:45 p.m. Day two kicks off with field events at 8:30 a.m. and finals for the running events begin at 2 p.m.Â
