#UAPBTrack and Field Continues to Progress at KMS Open

BIRMINGHAM, AL. -- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's and women's track and field teams finished strong at the KMS Open Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama, at the CrossPlex, with three student-athletes finishing first out of the 14 total that finished in the top ten of their events.

"Based on our performance at KMS Open we have continued to progress and excel past our previous performances," said UAPB head coach Christopher McCoy. "We met some of our goals this week and we were able to see this based on our results," said McCoy.

UAPB had four student-athletes achieved a new personal best performance at the KMS open, junior Danniel Bailey and junior Mykhel Oppun in the weight throw event, junior Jyzmin Gray in the 60m hurdles, and freshman Otisha Williams in the shot put.

On the men's side, in the 60m hurdles, freshman Stephen Lane finished ninth with a time of 8.56.
In field events, sophomore Deandre Fyffe continues to dominate as he clinched first place in the shot put and weight throw with launches of 15.39m and 16.75m. Bailey placed third in the shot put with a launch of 15.02m and fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 16.13m.

On the women's side, in the running events, junior's Safiya John and Gray finished in the top five in the 60m hurdles, with John finishing first with a time of 8.63 and Gray crossing the finish line with a time of 8.87. 
 
In the 400m, sophomore Jada Sabir finished third with a time of 58.16. In the 4x400m relay, Sabir, freshman Tatyana McKenzie, sophomore Chelsea Ragoonanan, and junior Katrina Small finished third with a time of 3.52.85.

In the field events, Small finished third in the triple jump with a jump of 11.75m.


Both programs will be back in action for a two-day meet at the 6th annual Gorilla Classic at Pittsburg State University on February 12th and 13th.
