Fayetteville, AR.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their second invitational meet on a high note at the Arkansas Invitational held at the Randal Tyson Track Center. They competed against teams from Texas, Arkansas, North Texas, Oral Roberts, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, and several local state schools.
The Golden Lions set multiple indoor school and personal records, with 12 student-athletes contributing to this record-breaking performance.
Caleb Snowden, recognized as one of the top high jumpers in the country, continues to make history. With his sights set on winning the NCAA Indoor High Jump competition, Snowden claimed first place in the event, clearing a height of 2.15m (7 feet 1/2 inch).
In the running events, junior
Jared Sylvester finished 3rd in the 60m dash with a time of 6.76 seconds. He was followed by senior
Genesis Joseph, who placed 5th in the 600m with a personal record time of 1:19.05.
The Golden Lions also excelled in the 300m event, with three student-athletes setting personal records. Junior
Ross Walrond led the way, finishing 5th with a time of 33.56 seconds. He was followed closely by sophomore
Jordan Pierre in 6th place with a time of 33.60 seconds, and senior Mohamed Soumare, who placed 8th with a time of 34.24 seconds. Freshman
Avindale Smith finished 9th in the 400m with a time of 48.80 seconds.
The UAPB 4x400 relay team continued their success from the previous indoor meet. Comprising
Jordan Pierre,
Ross Walrond, Mohamed Soumare, and
Jared Sylvester, the team broke the school record for the second consecutive meet, finishing 5th with a time of 3:10.86.
In field events, sophomore
Anson Moses placed 6th in the long jump with a personal record of 7.19m. Senior
Anthony Fuqua secured 5th place in the triple jump with a leap of 14.34m.
On the women's side, UAPB had two student-athletes finish in the top three. Graduate
Jaylynn Hampton placed 2nd in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.63 seconds, followed closely by junior
Arryona Simmons, who finished 3rd with a time of 8.69 seconds.
In shot put, UAPB had three student-athletes in the top 10. Sophomore
Ariyonna Edmond led with a 7th place finish, throwing a distance of 12.79m. Senior
Cornelia Watts placed 9th with a throw of 11.77m, and senior
Lyric Love rounded out the group, finishing 10th with a throw of 11.75m.
In the weight throw, Love claimed 3rd place with a distance of 16.27m, followed by Edmond, who placed 5th with a throw of 15.11m.
UAPB will next compete at the Pittsburg State Invitational in Pittsburg, Kansas, on February 1.
