The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team's historic season comes to an end with a loss to Florida A&M 3-2 in the semifinals of the SWAC Tournament.
The Lady Lions came out strong winning the first set of the match 25-21 over FAMU.Â
FAMU won the next two sets, but the Lady Lions would not go down without a fight. UAPB trailed 20-23 before Kori Diego and Zykia Jones both earned a kill, and Haley Gomez made a block to knot the game up 23-23.Â
Later tied 27-27, Zyonn Smith made a kill and a service ace by Jayden James gave the Lady Lions set four.
In sudden death, the Lady Lions came as close as 8-10 to FAMU, but the comeback fell short.
The Lady Lions were led by Smith who finished with a team-high of 18 kills and 10 digs. James added 13 kills to the team's total.
Nikole Akamine finished with 28 assists and 15 assists for UAPB, and Vanessa Collins added 24 assists in the match.
Destiny Thomas defensively controlled the game with a game-high seven blocks in the match.
