HOUSTON - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team is set to continue its 2020 campaign this weekend with a three-game series against Texas Southern at MacGregor Park.

 The Golden Lions open the series with a 5 p.m. first pitch on Friday before playing on Saturday at 2 p.m. and closing the series at 1 p.m.

The Golden Lions are coming off a hard-fought 2-1 loss at Wichita St. on a walk-off hit in the ninth inning in snowy conditions with temperature the low 30's.

Junior Joel Parker had an impressive start against the Shockers, going 8.0 innings, giving up both runs as long with four strikeouts. 

Junior Jarficur Parker led UAPB at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI. Junior Kacy Higgins added two hits and scored one run for the Golden Lions.

Junior Humberto Maldonaldo ranks eighth in the conference in hitting with a batting average of .400 and is fourth in hits with (12). 

Parker and junior Nick Kreutzer tied for first in the conference in doubles with three, and Parker also is tied for second in the conference in runs batted in with eight.  

Freshman Rocky King (1-0) leads the Golden Lions on the hill with a 2.40 ERA, giving up eight hits in two starts, and nine strikeouts.

The Golden Lions defense as a unit is rank third in the conference in fielding with a percentage of 0.958 and third in the conference in pitching 5.35 ERA.

Texas Southern is coming off an 8-4 win over Mississippi St. in a midweek non-conference game.  

Rode Coffee leads the Tigers at the plate with a batting average of .370, four home runs and nine RBIs.
