Wichita St., KS. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision to Wichita St. in snowy condition Tuesday afternoon at Eck Stadium with the temperatures in the low 30's.
The Golden Lions got on the board first in the top of the third inning when junior Kacy Higgins singled to left field, followed by sophomore Braelin Hence reaching first on an error, moving Higgins to second. Senior Justin Robinson walked to load the bases before junior Jarficur Parker singled to left field, scoring Higgins to give UAPB a 1-0 lead.
The Shockers answered by scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, tying the game at 1-1.
Both teams went scoreless until the bottom of the ninth inning when the Shockers scored the game-winning run off a walk-off hit with the bases loaded.
Parker led UAPB at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI. Higgins also added two hits, scoring one run.
Junior Joel Barker pitched 8.0 innings, giving up two runs and four strikeouts.
The Golden Lions will open up conference play this weekend when they travel to Houston to face Texas Southern in a three-game series. Friday's first pitch is set for 5 p.m. at MacGregor Park.
