HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team kept Alabama A&M to just 33.3 percent shooting from the field but fell 59-49 to the Bulldogs on the road Saturday.
The Golden Lions (2-11, SWAC) had two players score in double figures, led by Terrance Banyard, who had 14 points and two blocks. Markedric Bell tacked on 10 points, and nine rebounds and Dequan Morris added eight points, three steals, and two blocks.
UAPB's defense held Alabama A&M to only 33.3% shooting from the field. The Golden Lions got off to a slow start, falling behind 35-26 heading into halftime.
UAPB had opportunities in the second half, but could not regain the lead.
"We missed a lot of easy baskets down the stretch, and it's hard to beat a team like Alabama A&M when your shots are not going in," said UAPB head coach George Ivory. "They did a good job of playing Bell, but our defense kept us in the ball game. They came out ready to play tonight, but it's hard to beat a team when you miss a lot of free throws, but we'll regroup and get the offense going for Monday's night game."
The Golden Lions return to action Monday at Alabama St at 7:30 p.m. The UAPB Sports Network will have a live radio broadcast on 99.3 FM The Beat, online at uapblionsroar.com, and on the free UAPB Athletics App.
