Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lady Lions Shutout Jarvis Christian On The Road

On a hot dry Thursday afternoon, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's soccer team opened their two-game road trip with a 4-0 shutout over Jarvis Christian at the Bulldogs Soccer Complex.

"We wanted to set the tone right from kickoff and start the game off right," said first-year UAPB head coach Jeremy Winzer.  "The first group went out there and executed and scored the game first three points and we were able to play some of the younger student-athletes in the second half."

The game was initially scheduled for 2 p.m., but there was a slight delay in the game.  The time moving of the game didn't seem to be an issue for the Lady Lions.

Freshman Lizeth Martinez scored the game first goal less than a minute after kickoff with an assist from Sarah Wright to give UAPB a 1-0 lead.

It didn't take long for the Lady Lions to strike again, senior Sarah Wright placed the ball in the bottom left-hand corner of the net to give UAPB a 2-0 lead at the 40th minute.  Kaylie Gabel provided a cushion three minutes later, as the freshman striker put one in the back of the net to give UAPB a 3-0 lead in the 37th minute, followed by senior Shannon Seymour goal in the 33rd minute in the first half.

Senior Sariah Orocu and freshman Trinity Taylor secured the complete-game shutout for the Lady Lions, grabbing one save.  UAPB outshot Jarvis Christian 18-3 in the game.

UAPB will be back in action Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Sam Houston.
