PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team is back on the court this weekend for matchups with Tennessee State and Middle Tennessee. The Lady Lions will close its final weekend of non-conference play against the Tigers on Friday at 6 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn., before visiting the Blue Raiders on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
The Lady Lions are coming off a very competitive tournament against Rice, Gardner-Webb and Arkansas State in the A-State Invitational this past weekend.
"We're excited to get back in the gym," said first-year UAPB head coach Chelsey Lucas. "We feel there are some things we can capitalize on and get better with. For us, it's just making sure that we can continue to improve, as we continue face quality opponents."
Freshman Zyaire Garrit leads UAPB with a total of 46 kills and 39 digs, followed by sophomore Kaila Robinson adding a total of 44 kills and 68 digs. Freshman Elyssa Kennedy contributed a team-high 97 assists, followed by senior Micayla Pope with 77.
On the defensive side, sophomore Haley Gomez leads the team with 18 blocks, which ranks her 10th in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in total blocks.
Tennessee State is coming off a mid-week win over North Alabama, and this will be the first meeting between the two programs.
