The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's volleyball squad got off to a slow start on the final day of the UNO Invitational, as the Lady Lions fell to New Orleans (11-25, 19-25, 15-25) at the Human Performance Center.
Zyaire Garrit keyed UAPB offensively, as the freshman tallied with five kills and 10 digs, followed by freshmen Zyonne Smith and Darynne Bickers with four kills apiece.
Senior Micayala Pope provided a team-high eight assists along with sophomore Haley Gomez with four block assists.
"We put up a fight against a good UNO team," said first-year head coach Chelsey Lucas. "I felt that being a young team, we have to learn how to start at the beginning and continue to run our offense and do our job."
UAPB returns to action when they travel to Memphis, TN. for a two-day tournament at the Memphis Invitational from Sept. 5-6.
