Golden Lions Open 2019 Fall Camp This Friday

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football team begins its 2019 fall camp with the first of 20 practices beginning Friday, August 2, in preparation for the season opener on the road against TCU, Saturday, Aug. 31 at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth Texas.

The Golden Lions return to campus for their conditioning test on Thursday, Aug. 1, before opening camp on Friday, Aug. 2 at Simmons Bank Field. The Golden Lions will hold a scrimmage Saturday. Aug. 3 at 11 a.m., take Sunday off. All weekday practices Aug. 5-9 are scheduled to be at both the game and practice field from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and scrimmage Saturday Aug.10 at 11 a.m.

UAPB will welcome back 15 players that started on either offense or defense in 2018.

"It's been a long time to get out on the grass and just having the players here early for summer school and watching them run around with the potential of playing a fast football game is exciting," said UAPB head coach Cedric Thomas. "We are thrilled about the guys that's returning along with some of the younger guys that's here to start the 2019 campaign," Thomas said.

"To have the players here for the second session summer school gives you one up and makes the playing field level," Thomas said. "We have a chance with the new strength coach to get the players acclimated with the weight room to be able to take that next step. When camp starts the coaching staff will be looking for effort, great attitudes, and a lot of retention to take that next step to be great."

Leading the way will be preseason All-Southwestern Athletic Conference selections Jalen Steward and Taeyler Porter.

Practices are generally open to the public. Media should contact the Strategic Communication Office prior to attending to confirm practice location and make interview requests.
