UAPB Tops Southern In Comeback Victory

Pine Bluff, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team scored three late runs to defeat Southern 6-5 in game one of a three-game series Friday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Softball Complex.  

After being down 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Lions roared back to take the lead, as consecutive singles up the middle from Desiree Bumpers and Faith Santa Cruz started the inning.  Sha'terrika Benard kept the rally going with a double to right center, scoring Bumpers to cut the Lady Jags lead to 5-4 as Santa Cruz moved to third.  On the next pitch, Santa Cruz scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

Shanice Akins then singled to center field and scored when Kameron Graham doubled home the winning run.

Kameron Graham led UAPB at the plate going 1-for-3 with the game-winning RBI.  The Lady Lions had seven players with one hit apiece. 

Juliana Dominguez picked up the win, pitching a complete game giving up nine hits, one unearned run and one strikeout. 

The Lady Lions will be back in action Saturday, April 6, for a doubleheader starting at noon.
