The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team dropped the opening weekend series game to Prairie View A&M 11-8 at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex / Bill Jones Field.
Tywan Mackey Jr. homered and had three hits with two RBI, while
Ricardo Sanchez also had three hits for the Golden Lions.
Trailing 4-0 in the second inning, UAPB got on the board. Sanchez singled to lead off the inning, and advanced to second on an error as
Bryce Roesch reached on a fielder's choice.
Ryan Mallison then singled to left to load the bases, and a PVAMU error allowed Sanchez to score from third.
Jarficur Parker then singled inside the left field line, scoring Roesch and Mallison as the Golden Lions cut the deficit to 4-3.
UAPB took the lead in the sixth inning. Trailing 6-4, Parker reached on a throwing error to lead off the inning before scoring on a
Brandon Simon double to left center. Simon then scored on an error to tie the game.
Justin Robinson singled through the left side, stole second, and scored on a
Nick Kreutzer single to left to give the Golden Lions a 7-6 lead.
However, Prairie View A&M scored five runs in the seventh inning to take the lead for good.
UAPB scored a run in the ninth on Mackey Jr.'s double down the left field line, scoring Simon who walked to lead off the inning.
The Golden Lions and Panthers will play a Saturday doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
