The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team loss another heartbreak in the late innings, falling to Prairie View A&M 4-3 at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex / Bill Jones Field.
The teams attempted to play a doubleheader Saturday, but rain caused the postponement of the nightcap in the bottom of the first. The game is scheduled to resume at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Trailing 2-0 in the seventh, UAPB struck for three runs.
Ricardo Sanchez doubled off the wall in right field and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Jarficur Parker. Tywan Mackey Jr. then ripped a triple to center, scoring Sanchez to get the Lions on the board.
Larry Sims was then hit by a pitch. With two outs,
Ryan Mallison reached on an infield single to first, scoring Mackey, and pinch runner
Davion White scored on an error as the Golden Lions took a 4-3 lead.
However, Prairie View A&M scored two runs in the top of the ninth to take the win.
Mallison went 2-for3 at the plate to lead UAPB.
Justin Robinson and
Nick Kreutzer also had hits for the Golden Lions.
