SAN ANTONIO, Texas. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team lost 15-11 at Incarnate Word Saturday in game two of the three-game series at Sullivan Field.
Nick Kreutzer had two hits, including a two-run homer.
Justin Robinson,
Sergio Esparza,
Davion White, and
Ryan Mallison also had two hits for UAPB in the 14-hit attack.
The teams scored in each at-bat in the first four innings. The Golden Lions got off to a fast start. With one out, Robinson and Esparza hit back-to-back singles, and Kreutzer was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Robinson then scored on a fielder's choice, and Esparza on a throwing error to give UAPB a 2-0 lead.
After UIW scored two in the home half of the first, UAPB added two runs in the second. White led off with a single and moved to third on a Mallison single, with Mallison thrown out trying to stretch it to a double. Parker's single to center field score White, and Esparza's single to center scored Parker for a 4-2 Golden Lion lead.
Trailing 7-4 after two, UAPB added a run in third on as
Austin Krzeminski scored on a two-out error to cut into the deficit to 7-5.
Incarnate Word extended to a 10-5 lead after three, but the Golden Lions added a run in the fourth. Robinson lead off with a single, stole second, and eventually scored on a two-out error to make the score 10-6.
Trailing 12-6, the Golden Lions continued to battle in adding a pair of runs in the seventh. With one out,
Ricardo Sanchez reached on an error before walks to
Brandon Simon and
Larry Sims loaded the bases. White was then hit by a pitch to score Sanchez. Mallison's sacrifice fly scored Simon to cut the score to 12-8.
The Golden Lions got closer in the eighth. With one out, Esparza was hit by a pitch before Kreutzer launched a massive two-run homer to right to cut bring the deficit to 12-10.
After UIW added three in the eighth, the Golden Lions responded in the ninth. White and Mallison reached on infield singles to lead off the inning. With one out, Robinson's sacrifice fly scored White for the final margin.
