UAPB Softball Drops Doubleheader at Grambling St.

Grambling, La. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team dropped two games to Grambling St. 11-2 and 5-4, at GSU Softball Complex on Friday afternoon.
 
Game One

Grambling St. 11 UAPB 2:  The Lady Lions struck first in the top of the first inning when Tamira Chatman scored off a sac fly to right field by Dominique Humphrey.  UAPB would add another run in top of the fifth inning when Faith Santa Cruz single through the left side, advanced to second on a pass ball and scored off a ground out by Akins.
Grambling St. would go on to score 11 runs to end the game in five innings.
Santa Cruz led the Lady Lions at the plate going 1-for-2 with one run.
 
Game Two

Grambling St. 5 UAPB 4: UAPB jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning when  Chatman led off with a single to right field and scored off a triple to left center by Shanice Akins.   Akins would eventually score off a sac fly by Humphrey to give the Lady Lions a 2-0 lead. 
UAPB would add another run in the top third inning when Humphrey single up the middle, recording an RBI to score Akins, who reached earlier with a single to left field.   Senior Karia Hall hit a solo blast over the left field wall to give UAPB a 4-0 lead. 
 
However, Grambling St. scored the final five runs, including two in the bottom of the seventh to rally for the win.

Akins led UAPB at the plate going 3-for-3 with one RBI and scoring two runs, followed by Hall going 3-for-3 with one home run.
Game three of the three-game series will be scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. at the GSU Complex.
