Lady Lions Fall to Lady Tigers

PINE BLUFF, Ark.Grambling St. led by Little Rock native Shakyla Hill, defeated the Lady Lions 67-57 at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
 
Hill, a senior guard, and the Southwestern Athletic Conference's leading scorer, added eight rebounds, four steals and three assists for the Lady Tigers (13-14, 10-5).  Junior guard Camryn London scored 13 points while senior guard Jazmin Boyd had 12 points and six rebounds.
 
Senior guard Kye Richardson scored 16 points for UAPB (5-18, 2-14), which was down 21 points in the fourth quarter before making a push.
 
Grambling St. led 55-34 with 8:30 left to play before a three-pointer by Richardson started a stretch where the Lady Lions outscored the Lady Tigers 23-10.  A free throw by sophomore guard Trasity Totten cut Grambling State's lead to 65-57 with 51 seconds left, but the Lady Tigers were able to keep UAPB from getting any closer.
 
The Lady Lions, who trailed 36-24 at halftime, will play their home finale Monday against Jackson State Meet the Spring Teams before traveling to Mississippi Valley State next Saturday in the last game of the season.
 
FAST BREAK

· Totten and fellow sophomore, Kyeonia Harris, both scored 10 points for UAPB.
· Senior center Shawntayla Harris, who ranks fifth in the league in rebounds, had a game-high nine boards. Kyeonia Harris followed with eight. 
· UAPB shot just 27 percent (8 of 30) in the first half compared to 44 percent (14 of 32) for Grambling State.
· Hill, the SWAC's Preseason Player of the Year, leads the conference in assists (6.0), steals (4.7) and minutes played (34.5) and ranks second in rebounding (7.7).
· Both teams had 46 rebounds and 14 steals.
· Shawntayla Harris has a SWAC-leading 54 blocks on the season.
