Safiya John Named Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Safiya John have been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Track and Field Athletes of the Week following standout efforts during this past weekend of competition.

John set a pair of personal bests during competition at the Don DeNoon Invitational this past weekend. The freshman posted a second-place result in the long jump, clearing 5.36 meters (17 feet, 7.0 inches). Additionally, she finished fourth in the high jump with a 1.61 meter (5 feet, 3.25 inches) clearance and tied the No. 1 time in the 60-meter hurdles among SWAC student-athletes, running a time of 8.80 seconds to take second place.
