Lady Lions Struggle Offensively In Loss Against Jackson St.

JACKSON, Miss. – Twenty-two turnovers and 32.7 percent shooting was tough to overcome for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in its 60-41 loss at Jackson State in women's Southwestern Athletic Conference play Monday at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.

Sophomore forward Marneisha Hamer scored 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Lady Tigers, who benefited from cold shooting from the Lady Lions to run their winning streak to three games. Junior guard Christina Ellis had 14 points and freshman guard Summer Williams added 13 points for Jackson State (8-12, 4-5).

Senior center Shawntayla Harris finished with nine points and 12 rebounds to lead UAPB (4-12, 1-8), which hit just 6 of its first 23 shots and threw the ball away 13 times over the first two quarters to trail 29-15 at the break.  The Lady Lions outshout the Lady Tigers in the second half but were never able to get their deficit under 13 points.  UAPB finished 17 of 52 from the field while Jackson State was 21 of 52 (40.4 percent).

After a pair of free throws from junior guard Noe'll Taylor with 9:45 to go in the third quarter got UAPB within 29-16, an Ellis jumper started a 9-2 run that allowed Jackson State to push its lead to 20 (38-18). A three-pointer from junior guard Atitiana Vincent again got the Lady Lions within 13 (49-36) with 6:19 remaining in the game, but a bucket from Hamer settled things for the Lady Tigers.

UAPB will get yet another road test Saturday at Alabama State, with tip-off set to begin at 4 p.m.
