Golden Lions Edged Out In Narrow Loss At Prairie View, 48-44

Prairie View, Texas – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team was held to its lowest offensive output of the season, along with Prairie View but remained in striking distance late in the game on the road against Prairie View.

Junior guard Antoine Lister knocked down two free throws with four seconds left to give Prairie View A&M the breathing room it needed to hold off UAPB 48-44 on Monday night at the William J. Nicks Building.

Lister finished with just five points, but his foul shots provided the finishing touches for the Panthers, who escaped with the win.
Junior guard Chancellor Ellis had 12 points and senior guard Gary Blackston ended with 11 points for Prairie View A&M (15-12, 13-1).

Sophomore forwards Shaun Doss and Terrance Banyard scored 20 and 10 points, respectively, for UAPB (11-17, 8-7).  The duo combined to shoot 12-of-17 from the field, but it was not enough to pull out the victory.  Senior guard Martaveous McKnight, the Southwestern Athletic Conference's leading scorer, was held scoreless on 0-of-8 shooting.  As a team, UAPB was 18-of-50 (36 percent).  But despite their shooting woes, the Golden Lions had a chance in the final moments to pull out the victory over the first-place Panthers.

UAPB was down 26-23 at halftime and faced a 10-point deficit with less than 16 minutes to play but scratched to within 41-40 after a three-pointer from senior guard Charles Jackson with 2:52 to go.  The teams exchanged baskets over the next two possessions, with Doss' lay-up cutting the Panthers' lead to 46-44 with eight seconds remaining.  But Lister was fouled with four ticks left and calmly sank two free throws to put the game away.

UAPB returns to the floor Saturday night against Grambling St.  Tip-off is scheduled for
7:30 p.m. at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
