UAPB Comeback Falls Short Against Abilene Christian in Game Three

Abilene, TX. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball dropped a 16-7 decision in the final of a three-game series with Abilene Christian on Sunday afternoon.

The Wildcats got off to a hot start holding a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second before the Golden Lions cut the lead down to one (2-1) with a fielder choice by Nick Kreutzer scoring Bryce Roesch, who reached earlier with a single down the right-field line. 

The Abilene Christian would go on to score in five straight innings, to hold on to a more comfortable double-digit lead.

UAPB started its comeback in the top of the seventh inning when Ryan Mallison walked, followed by Jarficur Parker single through the right side, advancing Mallison and Kreutzer blasted a three-run bomb over right field wall to cut into the Wildcats lead (10-4).  

Abilene Christian would put up six more runs in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory. 

Kreutzer led the Golden Lions at the plate going 3-of-5, with five RBIs and one homerun to make his second of the series.  Sergio Esparza and Roesch both had two hits apiece.

Antoine Luster got the start on the mound and the loss going 3.2 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and four strikeouts. 

Ryne Randle led the way for the Wildcats going 5-of-6 with seven RBIs.  Also, Jonathan Nicholson picked up the win pitching 6.0 innings with nine strikeouts.

The Golden Lions will continue their 13 game road trip when they face off against Oklahoma Sooners Feb. 26-27th in Norman Oklahoma.
