Women’s Basketball Prepares For Matchup With Milwaukee

11/18/2019 4:09:00 PM

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team will hit the road for the first time in 11 days Tuesday for a matchup at Milwaukee.

The Lady Lions and the Lady Panthers will tip-off at 7 p.m. in their first-ever meeting inside the Klotsche Center.  The UAPB Sports Network radio broadcast begins at Lions Roar All Access at 6:45 p.m. on 99.3 FM, online at uapblionsroar.com, and on the free UAPB Athletics App. The game can also be viewed online at ESPN3.

The Lady Lions opened the 2019-20 season, on a hard-fought 76-69 defeat to Coastal Carolina at the HTC Arena.  The Lady Lions started strong, taking a 21-19 lead at the end of the first quarter, before going in the locker room down 40-35.  The Lady Lions started slowly in the third quarter before outscoring Coastal Carolina 20-16 in the final quarter to nearly pull the upset in non-conference action.

"With the ladies being off for 11 days, it gives us a chance to go back and tweak some things," said first-year UAPB head coach Dawn Brown.  "I think we have an excellent chance to win if we spread the ball around and not be one dimensional.  Senior Aiya El Hassan played a significant role in the match against Coastal Carolina, along with freshman Tyler Pyburn and senior Kyeonia Harris, but this will set a foundation for others to step and fulfill those spots where needed."

Three Lady Lions scored in double figures in the loss against the Lady Chanticleers.  El Hassan led the way with 18 points, along with Pyburn, who made her debut with 15 points, and Harris, who added 13 points.  On the defensive boards, junior Trasity Totten had a game-high eight rebounds.
