Volleyball Close Out Regular Season On The Road Against Grambling St.

GRAMBLING, LA. - The University of Arkansas At Pine Bluff volleyball team closes its 2019 regular-season schedule at Grambling St. Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Fred Hobdy Assembly Center.

Coming off a thrilling four-set win over Texas Southern Monday on Senior Night, the Lady Lions are looking to capture the regular-season series against the Lady Tigers. In the last matchup at the H.O. Clemmons Arena, UAPB defeated Grambling St. 25-16, 23-25, 25-18, 18-25, 15-11.

If the season ended today, UAPB would be the seventh seed in the SWAC Tournament that will be held Nov. 22-24 with a conference record of 7-10, and Grambling St. will be the eight-seed with a conference record of 4-13.

"I explained to the ladies that it's very important to come in and set the tone," said first-year UAPB head coach Chelsey Lucas. "Being that its senior night for Grambling, I told our ladies to stick to the plan and execute the game plan, and we should be fine."

The Lady Lions are led by sophomore Haley Gomez, who leads the team in kills with a total of 234. Gomez also ranks ninth in the conference in points total with 298. Sophomore Bri-Anna and freshman Elyssa Kennedy tied for fourth in service ace per set with an average of 0.28. On the defensive side, sophomore Breana August ranks sixth in the conference in total digs with 324, and Gomez ranks second in the conference in total blocks with 89.
