Soccer Scores Three Second-Half Goals in Thrilling Comeback Victory Over Mississippi Valley St.

ITTA BENA, MS. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff soccer team scored three goals within 25 minutes in the second half to earn a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 road victory over Mississippi Valley St. Sunday.

UAPB trailed MVSU 2-0 at the end of intermission before roaring back and scoring their first goal by freshman Kaylie Gabel off an assist from junior Alexis Sanders in the 61st minute to cut the lead to one. Senior captain Sarah Wright stepped up big after scoring the game-tying goal in the 79th minute and intercepted a pass with less than six minutes in the game and scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute to seal the win. Wright also contributed five shots, five shots on goals, and two goals for the Lady Lions.

With the win, UAPB stands in the top four of the Southwestern Athletic Conference with their third consecutive win.

"I'm proud of the ladies on the way they fought back," said first-year UAPB head coach Jeremy Winzer. "We are fighting for a good position as we head down the stretch of the season. Wright came up big for us. She's tough and has a lot of heart. She's passionate about the game, and this makes consecutive two game-winners for her, and that speaks volumes of who she is."

On the defensive side, freshman goalie Trinity Taylor had seven saves in the net to earn her fifth win of the season.

UAPB will back at home Friday against Howard U. Friday at 4 p.m.
