JACKSON, MS. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team dropped each of its matches Friday, falling to Alabama A&M and Alabama St. on day one of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Roundup held at Jackson St.

Alabama A&M 3, UAPB 0    

The Lady Lions dropped the first match against the Lady Bulldogs 21-25, 17-25, 18-25. 

Sophomore Haley Gomez led UAPB with six kills, followed by sophomore Kaila Robinson with five. On the defensive side, sophomore Breana August added 12 digs, along with Gomez and freshman Samoana Poyer both with two blocks apiece. 

Alabama St. 3 UAPB 1

In the last match of the day for UAPB, the Lady Lions fell to Alabama St. 25-23, 20-25, 22-25, 24-26.  

Despite the Lady Hornets coming out with the win, all four sets went down to the wire.  

"We started well in both games, but we have to learn to play a complete game," said first-year UAPB head coach Chelsey Lucas.  "We're a young ball club and we can't afford to make mistakes and expect to win close ball games."

Gomez had a team-high 11 kills, followed by junior Breana Armstrong and freshman Zyaire Garrit with eight kills apiece. Senior Micayla Pope added 21 assists.  On the defensive side sophomore, Robinson contributed 20 digs and Haley Gomez had a game-high four blocks. 

UAPB will be back in action Saturday against Mississippi Valley at 10 a.m. and Jackson St. at 7 p.m.
