WHITE HALL, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Department of Athletics recently teamed up with the White Hall Food Pantry and Family Church of White Hall for a community food drive. The White Hall Food Pantry is a non-profit organization located on the property of First Baptist Church White Hall, and some UAPB coaches donated their time to accept donations and distribute food at one of the largest food drives that the WHFP has all year.
"We have about 90-100 people come through to the pantry every two weeks, which represents feeding about 400 people," said Amanda Haynes, who is administrative assistant at Family Church of White Hall.
"We reached out to members of our church, and some of our members coordinated bringing UAPB coaches along to help out, and that was absolutely spectacular," said Haynes.
Newly acquired UAPB offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach
Jermaine Gales was one of the Golden Lions coaches who volunteered for the event.
"It was wonderful to be able to take advantage of the first opportunity to serve the community," said Coach Gales.
The UAPB Golden Lions football team opens its season at newly renovated and newly named Simmons Bank Field on Saturday, September 1 as it hosts Morehouse College. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Pine Bluff.
