Box Score OXFORD, Miss. - After winning five straight games, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions lost its third straight contest, this time to the University of Mississippi by the score of 10-3 at Swayze Field.
In the opening inning, No. 3 Mississippi got on the board first with a three-run home run to left center. It added yet another homer in the second inning to extend its lead to 5-0 before the Golden Lions responded with a run when
Sergio Esparza doubled to right-center which brought home
Jarficur Parker.
With the score 6-1 in favor of Ole Miss, Esparza aka "El Magico" did more damage in the fifth inning when he generated a RBI single to left center which once again brought home Parker. Power hitter first baseman
Nick Kreutzer then followed up with a RBI single to right field that brought home Mallison, cutting the deficit to 6-3.
The Rebels closed the game and scored two additional runs in both the sixth and eighth innings respectively.Jordan Fowler (5-0) picked up the win while
Tyrus Lopez (7-3) was credited with the loss. In 2.1 innings of work, Lopez struck out one batter and gave up six runs (all unearned). Espara finished the game 4-for-5 with two RBI.
The Golden Lions finished with eight hits while Mississippi produced 11 hits.
UAPB (18-20, 10-9 SWAC) returns to action on Friday, May 4 as it travels to Texas to face Prairie View A&M in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Tankersely Field.
