UAPB triumphs over UALR 7-4 at Torii Hunter Baseball Complex

Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions defeated the University of Arkansas at Little Rock 7-4 at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex in non-conference action. The victory marks the fourth win in a row for the Golden Lions.

Arkansas-Little Rock took an early one run lead in the top of the second inning before the Golden Lions scored three runs in the third inning when Nick Kreutzer produced a two RBI double to left field that brought in both Jarficur Parker and Ryan Mallison. UAPB added an additional run in the fourth inning when Mallison generated a sacrifice fly that scored Larry Sims, giving UAPB a 4-1 lead.

The Trojans answered back with another run in the top of the seventh, but the Golden Lions responded with three more runs in the bottom frame as Parker took advantage of a wild pitch and touched home plate. Moments later, Ricardo Sanchez produced a two RBI double to right field that brought home both Sergio Esparza as well as Kreutzer which made the score 7-2 in favor of UAPB.

In the final inning UALR managed two additional runs, but its comeback was halted short as Parker caught a fly ball for the final out.

UAPB pitcher Peyton Burks (3-4) was credited with the victory as he fanned six batters and gave up two earned runs and eight hits in 7.0 innings of work. Teammate Nathan Sawrie picked up his third save of the year as he struck out one batter and and gave up two earned runs in and one hit in 2.0 innings of work.

Parker finished 2-for-5 from the plate with two runs while Kreutzer finished 2-for-2 from the plate with two runs and two RBI.

UALR pitcher McKinley Moore (0-4) picked up the loss for the Trojans. Chase Coker finished 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI in the loss.

UAPB (17-17, 9-7 SWAC) returns to action on Friday, April 27 as it hosts Texas Southern University in a three-game series in Southwestern Athletic Conference action. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
